Mission of the school:
To educate and train future female leaders in academics, social, good morals and Christian conduct.

School Philosophy:
We believe that wholistic education pays attention to the social, political, economic, spiritual and psychological aspects of the human person. St.Theresa Girls Secondary School Bwanda embraces wholistic education because it lays a strong foundation for training future female leaders in various contexts.

Our History:
The history of St.Theresa Girls Secondary School Bwanda is linked to the history of the religious community of the Daughters of Mary. Bishop Henry Streiches is the founder and Mother Mechtilde the foundress of the Daughters of Mary (Bannabikira). In 1925, Bishop Streicher consulted the Education ministry officials in the central Government concerning the education of girls. After getting fourable reply, the Bishop approached Mother Mechtilde with the statements: "Girls are left behind in the field of education. Prepare a place where training of girls who may wish to offer their services in the education of girl-children in schools in the diocese.”

Thus, St.Theresa started on October 3,1925 as a Vernacular Teachers’ Training Centre (V.T.C.) to cater for the Ugandan Women’s education through the education of the girl child. It was on December 28, 1928 that the first Ugandan women trained-teachers obtained their teacher Certificates at St.Theresa V.T.C. Bwanda. The training of Vernacular Teachers went on until February 1, 1040 when that V.T.T.C was transferred to Nkozi, and the Primary Teachers Training College replaced it.

When the need for more education increased, the school was turned into a Junior Secondary School during the 1950s. The Primary Teachers Training College was transferred to Nkozi in 1954.

Later the government, phased out the Junior Secondaries and thus, St.Theresa became a Senior Secondary School and it has both the Ordinary and Advanced levels of education. The school offers both Arts and Sciences at A’ Level.

The candle of St. Theresa Girls Secondary School Bwanda is still burning bright.
